In Algebra 1, I will be using a Standards Based Grading approach. Students will be tested on each state math standard. I will not be grading the assignments, they are the practice for the tests. As in sports, no record is kept for good practices, only the games count.
This is a new way of helping students cross the bar when it comes to math and the graduation requirement of passing the End-of-Course assessments.
Students should be able to show an assignment with some problems worked out if a parent requests to see something, but an assignment does not have to be complete unless a test is being retaken or missed.
Students will stay at a standard until a score of 3 or 4 is attained. This way, students are not forced to move on if understanding is not achieved.
